  • Customised Food Trucks

Food trucks and food trailers have become increasingly popular, especially among businesses that either wish to expand their current offering or new businesses who are able to provide a mobile service. Food trucks offer a unique and convenient way to have food prepared and sold at the right place.

The food trucks that Platinum® has seen are usually fully fitted out with all of the equipment necessary to start business straight away [once the registration process has been completed].

    Customised Food Trucks

Customised food trucks are specially designed vehicles used for cooking food, selling food and highly branded for your marketing objectives. There are numerous customisations that are available for these food trucks. In order to import a customised food truck to New Zealand, the food truck needs to meet NZ Transport Agency [NZTA] policies.

These NZTA requirements need to be addressed before the food truck is purchased and definitely before it is shipped to New Zealand. When purchasing a customised food truck, it is crucial to ensure that all necessary approvals and permits are secured before proceeding with the purchase.

    Small Food Trailers

Small food trailers are an excellent way to enter the food business. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase and easy to operate and maintain, making them an ideal choice for small businesses.

One significant advantage of small food trailers is their high mobility. This allows you to take your business where the customers are, whether that is at a farmers market, a music festival or a high traffic location. Because food trailers are small, you can quickly set up and take down your operation with ease, which is perfect for busy events.

If you are considering in starting a small food business, a small food trailer is definitely worth exploring. With its low cost and high mobility, it is the perfect way to get started in the food industry.

    Frequently Asked Questions About
    Importing Food Trucks

Can I import food trailers into New Zealand?
Most food trailers can be imported into New Zealand. As food trailers quite often include fridges, timber components and are to be driven on the road; there are a lot of requirements that need to be met in order to have the food trailer processed through both the New Zealand Customs Service [NZCS] and the Ministry for Primary Industries [MPI].
What food trucks cannot be brought into New Zealand?

If you have not assessed your food truck against NZTA requirements before the food truck arrives into New Zealand, there could be compliance issues that need to be rectified before the food truck can be registered. An important note, any food truck that contains asbestos parts, such as brake pads, is prohibited.

What do I need to import food trucks?

The very first step in the process – before you even purchase the food truck is to ask your overseas supplier for an itemised invoice for (1) the food truck and (2) all of the inclusions within the food truck and (3) the shipping costs to New Zealand.

You also need to contact NZTA and ask about the rules of importing a food truck. Once you have your overseas suppliers proposed invoice, Platinum® can then provide you with a quote to have the food truck imported into New Zealand.
